Laboratory measurements at the Fraunhofer ISE group of Dr. Uli Würfel confirmed that Saule Technologies perovskite photovoltaic cells are able to work with 25.5% efficiency in operating conditions for IoT applications.
It is an important milestone for perovskite photovoltaic technology. The measurements were carried out under 1000 lux illumination by a cold white LED, which represents the real-life environment for the first commercial application of these devices. The results open new business opportunities for Saule Technologies, a company based in Wroclaw, Poland. Flexible perovskite photovoltaic devices produced by Saule are well suited for powering electronic devices in indoor, low-light intensity conditions, making it a solution for various Internet of Things (IoT) applications.
This technology is readily available to be deployed on the market, and Saule Technologies, as the first company in the world, was able to transfer the cell manufacturing process from the R&D stage to the full-scale production line.
“Our first factory already prints perovskite devices suitable for the IoT sector. Now, when we have successfully entered the commercialization phase, we are going to scale up our business. It is time to build new factories all over the world, with much higher production throughputs as demand is growing rapidly. The IoT market will be worth USD $1.1 trillion in 2025 and we are ready for it,” said Dr. Olga Malinkiewicz, co-founder and CTO at Saule Technologies.
Saule Technologies cells are also energy sources for BIPV, BAPV, e-mobility and many other business sectors. For example, Skanska is pioneering a method of covering office building exteriors with semi-transparent perovskite solar cells, provided by Saule Technologies, on a commercial scale.
