Thales was selected by GVB, Amsterdam's public transport company, to replace all card readers in their buses and trams fleet.
These new card readers will enable travelers to pay by mobile phone, bank card, credit card or QR code.
GVB chose the latest Thales technology and offers to its passengers to use card reader equipped with built-in barcode and EMV functions.
In total, this new contract concerns approximately 4,000 card readers.
The replacement will start in the first half of 2021.
All card readers are planned to be replaced by the end of 2021.
The digital signing of the contract between Claudia Zuiderwijk, CEO GVB, and Jean-Philippe de Rek, managing director of Thales Revenue Collection Systems in the Netherlands, took place on 9 December.
“Travelers will soon be able to check in with a barcode, bank card, credit card or mobile phone. Winning the comprehensive and accurate tender confirms GVB's confidence in Thales and that our card readers are of high quality and future-proof," said Jean-Philippe de Rek, managing director of Thales Revenue Collection Systems in the Netherlands.
