UniPixel, Inc. announced that two technology industry leaders, James E. Doran and Sam I. Young, were elected to the UniPixel Board of Directors at the company’s Annual Shareholder Meeting. The addition of Doran and Young to the Board of Directors brings to six the total number of members on the Board.
“We have a strong Board with which to consult and we look forward to the leadership of Jim and Sam in these important upcoming years,” Jeff Hawthorne, president and CEO of UniPixel, said. “Their deep experience and documented records of achievement will be significant assets in helping us to execute our strategic plan to position UniPixel as one of the leading touchscreen sensor and cover glass replacement providers in the industry.”
Doran has built a 40-year career in the semiconductor business as an executive leading operations and technology to a broad spectrum of technology companies including Signetics, Intel, Intersil and AMD. Doran also has international experience, having been COO for Spansion, where he ran all aspects of operations worldwide.
He most recently served as the first SVP of worldwide Operations for GlobalFoundries, responsible for operating factories in Germany, Singapor, and New York. Mr. Doran was instrumental in establishing one of the most successful US – Japan joint ventures (Fujitsu AMD Semiconductor Limited) and helping form a successful solar joint ventures (Sunpower and AUO).
Doran is currently an executive-level consultant for companies ranging from small start-ups to multi-billion dollar international corporations. His recent consulting experience includes engagements with Brewer Science, Digimarc, Ramtron, Sun Power and Transphorm.
Young has more than 35 years of technology industry experience including RF and embedded products, touch screen controllers, memory, logic, solar energy, LED lighting, cloud computing and software.
Young is currently the president of Young and Associates, a firm with worldwide resources formed to help companies in the areas of strategic business planning, general management, product and market positioning/strategy, public relations and branding, marketing, strategic partnership creation, operations, sales channel and business development.
Young is co-founder of four technology companies, including Flash pioneer Exel Microelectronics, Corsair Microsystems, Hyundai Electronics Flash memory division (now called SK Hynix) currently doing in excess of $2 billion in revenue, and healthcare start-up NuEnerchi Inc. He has served as an executive at several public companies with sales of hundreds of millions of dollars as well as nine start-ups as a direct employee and over a dozen more as an advisor or part time executive.
Young has served on the advisory board or Board of Directors of multiple technology firms and has participated in raising well over $100 million in venture capital and formed many strategic relationships with Fortune 500 companies.
