New visions and creative concepts in the area of organic and printed electronics are what the OE-A (Organic and Printed Electronics Association), a working group within VDMA, aims to promote in its annual OE-A Competition. Once again this year, there were numerous submissions.
The five best submissions were awarded at LOPEC 2016 – the international trade fair and conference for printed electronics – in Munich, Germany.
“We received remarkably interesting demonstrators in the sectors packaging, wearables, smart buildings, as well as consumer electronics,” said Dr. Jeremy Burroughes, OE-A chairman and CTO of CDT UK.
For the eight-member jury, consisting of representatives from international companies and institutes, the judging process was not an easy job. They had to rate 20 prototypes and demonstrators in four categories. LOPEC attendees also got a vote. At the OE-A booth, where all demonstrators were on display, they were encouraged to choose their favorite demonstrator.
The awards were handed out in the following five categories during the LOPEC Dinner: Best Prototype/New Product OPV Building Façade Heliatek (Germany) Best Freestyle Demonstrator Beer Coaster Hochschule München (Germany) Best Publicly Funded Project Demonstrator OPV Living Room Sunflower Project (EU) Best Printed Electronics Vision Papier Machine: Printed electronics paper games Pluvinage and Pinaffo (France) Public Choice Award Beer Coaster Hochschule München (Germany)
OE-A also presented two LOPEC Start-up Forum Awards. Many innovative companies are looking for investors to bring their products and ideas to fruition. To continue the development of their technology and marketing strategies, they introduced their companies during the Start-up Forum.
“The excellent quality of the presentations in this year’s Start-up Forum clearly showed the progress of printed electronics,” said Thibaud Le Séguillon, LOPEC Business Conference chair, OE-A board member and CEO of Heliatek. A jury consisting of international industry leaders and researchers determined the winners.
Two awards were presented: Best Business Case Innovative thermoelectric generators (TEG), Frederick Lessmann, otego, a spin-off from KIT (Germany) and Most Impactful Technology/Product Flexiramics, Pavel Cholakov, Eurekite (Netherlands).
